Dance Studio History

This history of Summit Dance Works tells a story of growth, accolades and achievements, passion and the story of a vision about the trans-formative power of movement that took shape over two decades.

In 1998, Robin’s Danceworks opened under the direction of Robin Moore. Lyndzi Barnes studied and trained with RDW for 10 years and began apprenticing at the age of 14. She was at the studio seven days a week and began choreographing and working full-time at the studio at the age of 16. After her first semester of college, her heart pulled her home and she realized that college wasn’t what she wanted. She needed to be in the studio with the dancers again. She began working there full-time and choreographing for the competition company.

Robin Sold the studio to Lyndzi and her grandmother Bobbi Price in 2009. Robin’s Danceworks became Danceworks of Colorado Springs and another chapter began for this studio Over the past four years, the studio has risen to be one of the top studios in the state. Under Lyndzi’s direction, Danceworks of Colorado Springs was voted into the top 50 studios in the nation with the Federation of Dance Competitions, nominated for the People’s Choice Award with The Industry Dance Awards, and recognized nationally for choreography, entertainment, sportsmanship and multiple overall winners. Since 2009, the studio has consistently earned Best of the Springs titles in The Independent and The Gazette polls, and Lyndzi netted a Gold for the Best Choreography in the recent Gazette poll.

The studio slowly outgrew their space, and Lyndzi knew it was time for a big change. Now moving into another chapter for the studio, Summit Dance Works has been established to serve the local dance community better than ever, with a larger, more modern facility, more classes and more excitement than ever. For this grand venture, Lyndzi and her business partners have taken full ownership of the studio and strive to reach more children each and every day.

The partners handle all financial and business aspects of the studio, while Lyndzi manages all artistic and creative decisions. The different skills and backgrounds are what will make this studio stand apart from any others in the region.
